Dear Mr. Ahmad Borhani,
Thank you Thank you Thank you
And many, many thanks for such a great work.
This was the best investment I have ever made towards learning and tuning my
Santur.
What a relief! I do not know how to describe this relief; I call it
lifesaver.
The book of the Tuning of Persian Santur and the Videotape I purchased for
$50.00 is well worth, and in my opinion is the best package that my $50.00
could buy.
Having normal stressful primary responsibilities in our daily life, we try
to find some means of relaxation. People choose different hobbies to find a
way to relax. Now if this hobby adds more stress in life, then you should
either change it to a different hobby or do something about it.
Being in love with classical Persian music and being so far away from an
instructor, learning music and practicing to play an instrument specially
Santur for my hobby has not been an easy task for me.
In order to get my basic training in Santur; I have traveled from Seattle to
Los Angeles and to Vancouver Canada. I am very happy for what I did even
though it was very costly.
But, Tuning my Santur has been my everlasting problem and has been very
stressful.
Despite my nature for not being usually patient. But I have such a passion
for my hobby that I have spent hours and hours and hours trying to keep the
correct notes and tune on my Santur, especially if I want to change from
dastghah Shure to other dastghah.
I have done some studies, some researches and a lot of experiments in order
to tune my Santur. I have achieved some results, but has been very time
consuming and hectic too.
Until, I found your Web site and I am really fortunate.
After I got my package of TUNING OF PERSIAN SANTUR, I followed the
instructions very closely step by step, putting my own knowledge aside.
I got what I have been dreaming for a long time. Reminds me of the
expression we have in Persian "In one night you travel the distance
equivalent to a hundred years "
I have recommended this to couple of my friends and will strongly recommend
it to anyone interested in playing this instrument.
Mr. Borhani Thanks so much. For your help.
Questions:
1. Is it really important to worry about the ten cent differences when going
from Afshary to Bayate Tork and vice versa.
2. When replacing a broken wire, isn't it better after removing the broken
wire from the pin, turning the pin a few turn counter clock wise which
brings the pin out and also loosens it?
3. If one or two wires in one note are broken what is the disadvantage and
what is the effect on the sound?
4. Why is it almost impossible to find a pre-recorded tape, which is, tuned
the same as my Santur, so I can play with the tape. I have couple of sets of
tapes played by Mr. Payvar, or Saeed Sabet (Doreh- hie Santur Ostad
Abolhasan Saba) and the are tuned differently. Or other tapes that I can be
a part of the orchestra.
Comments:
1. Good information and warning on eye protection and safety glass usage.
2. On page 9, line 5, refers to a figure showing wire looping and winding.
There is no picture in the book, but information is in the video.
3. I think in video it is mentioned "anti clockwise" it is better to
say
counter clockwise.
4. When I got my package, the CD cover and the book were damaged in the
mail, I is a good idea to use a card board inside the envelop to protect the
contents.
Sincerely
Khodadad Naimi <onaimi@hotmail.com>
Dear Mr. Borhani,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and
appreciation to all your efforts in advancing our culture through teaching
and promoting Iranian National Music.
It had long been my desire to learn how to play Santur. The paucity of
experienced teachers in the U.S. and the long distances between the teachers
and the students had almost made it impossible to make this dream come
through. But your Video Tapes have solved this problem for me. I now am able
to play Santur by viewing these video tapes and reading accompanying
music
books that you have produced.
I, again, thank you for making it possible for me to say "I know how to
play
Santur." I am eagerly waiting for the 3rd tape and Book 3.
